Inspired in equal parts by The Empire Strikes Back and Empire of the Sun as a child, Alex became fascinated by movies and how they were made. This led him to the film program at the University of North Texas where he oversaw the lighting and photography on several bad student films.
After graduating in 2002, he ran a small commercial production company in Austin before moving to L.A. to pursue his dream of working in the movies. He soon worked his way into the camera, grip, and electric departments. Sometimes even all three at once on low-budget projects, forcing him to think and act quickly on a budget.
Now, Alex's work is featured on Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, TV One, and SyFy. He has also shot commercials for Adidas, Blizzard Entertainment, Microsoft Studios, Petmate, Dolby Laboratories, and Electronic Arts. He has recently added color grading to his repertoire, working in his home-office on a Davinci Resolve Studio rig powerful enough to handle 8k footage.
Alex is blessed to have worked with some amazing people in some amazing places. His work has taken him from coast to coast, as well as internationally, to the Philippines, Poland, and Italy. He grew up watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 and was lucky enough to work the original creators and cast on multiple projects. And he has shot with filmmakers that have had an incredible influence on his life and career, including Joe Dante, Robert Zemeckis, John Landis, Kevin Smith, Mark Romanek, Rian Johnson, and Edgar Wright.
